Control how it answers
Set how your bot sounds
When you finish, your bot answers in the voice you picked, at roughly the length you picked, on every page it sits on.
Before you start
- You can sign in to your Adoomi dashboard and open your bot
- Your bot has been trained on something, so a test question gets a real answer back How to check
About 4 minutes. You’ll do three things:
- pick a voice
- set the reply length
- save and read a test answer
How your bot sounds is set on one tab: Bot behaviour, then Tone & personality. You choose a voice, you choose how long answers run, and Adoomi turns both into the instructions the assistant follows. Nothing here changes what your bot knows — only how it says it.
The five voices
| Voice | How it comes across |
|---|---|
| professional | Clear, neutral and respectful. The safest pick, and where every bot starts. |
| friendly | Warm. It talks to a visitor the way you would talk to a regular customer. |
| witty | Short, sharp and occasionally playful — never at the visitor's expense. |
| concise | The fewest words that fully answer the question. |
| custom | Drops the presets and uses the Voice and Tone you type into the Brand box instead. |
How long answers run
| Reply length | What it aims for |
|---|---|
| short | Under 60 words. Bullet points only where they are essential. |
| medium | Under 200 words, with lists where they help. This is where a new bot starts. |
| long | As much room as the question warrants, up to about 600 words, with headings and lists for complicated answers. |
Three more switches sit under Response style, on the same tab. They control the shape of an answer rather than its length:
- Use markdown lets the bot bold things and add links. Turn it off and every reply is flat text.
- Use lists lets it bullet or number anything with two or more items.
- End with a follow-up question makes every reply close by asking the visitor one short question.
Set the voice and the length
In the left sidebar, click Bots.
Click your bot's row in the list.
That opens General settings, and the bot's own sidebar appears down the left.
In the bot sidebar, under Bot setup, click Bot behaviour.
Click the Tone & personality tab.
Under Voice & tone, choose a Persona from the list.
Under Response style, choose a Reply length.
Use markdown, Use lists and End with a follow-up question are the three switches beneath it.
Click Save.
Saved. Changes are live for new conversations. appears beside the button, and the next answer your bot gives uses the new voice.
Guided or Advanced
Every bot is in one of two prompt modes, set under Prompt mode on the Model & advanced tab. The mode decides whether Adoomi writes the bot's instructions from these tabs, or you write them yourself.
| Option | Best for |
|---|---|
| Guided | Almost everyone, and where every bot starts. You set the voice here and the rules on Response rules, and Adoomi writes the instructions for you. |
| Advanced | You want to write the whole instruction yourself, word for word. Everything on Tone & personality and Response rules stops reaching the bot while you are in this mode. |
Write your own prompt in Advanced
On Bot behaviour, click the Model & advanced tab.
Under Prompt mode, click Advanced.
A System prompt (raw) box appears underneath.
In System prompt (raw), type the instructions you want the bot to follow.
Click Save.
From now on this text is the bot's whole instruction. The voice, the reply length and the response rules are ignored until you go back to Guided.
Go back to Guided
Copy your prompt out of System prompt (raw) and paste it somewhere safe first.
One minute now saves a hunt through Prompt history later.
Under Prompt mode, click Guided.
Click Save.
The written prompt is cleared. The Tone & personality and Response rules tabs start driving the bot again.
Prompt history, and what Restore brings back
Prompt history sits at the bottom of Model & advanced and lists the last 10 saved versions of this bot, newest first. Each row shows its version number, whether it was saved in guided or advanced mode, and when. Restore puts that version back.
If it didn’t work
My written prompt vanished when I switched to Guided
- Check
- On Bot behaviour, open the Model & advanced tab and look at Prompt history at the bottom. Find the newest row whose label reads advanced — the short line under it shows the first few words of that prompt.
- Fix
- Click Restore on that row. Your prompt and Advanced mode both come back. Restore also rolls that row's voice and response rules back, so check both tabs afterwards. If no advanced row is listed, the prompt was either never saved in Advanced or has dropped off the last-10 list. Either way it cannot be recovered, so retype it and save before switching again.
- Resolved when
- Prompt mode reads Advanced and your text is back in System prompt (raw).
Nothing I set on Tone & personality changes the answers
- Check
- Open Model & advanced and read Prompt mode. If it says Advanced, your written prompt is the bot's whole instruction and this tab is ignored.
- Fix
- Either fold the tone into the written prompt yourself, or go back to Guided. Going back clears the written prompt, as the warning above explains, so copy it somewhere safe first.
- Resolved when
- Prompt mode reads Guided, and changing the Persona visibly changes the next answer.
Answers are still longer than the length I chose
- Check
- Read Reply length under Response style. long allows up to about 600 words, which is a lot for a chat window.
- Fix
- Choose short, click Save, then ask again in a fresh chat window. Reply length is a target, not a hard cut-off. It turns a long answer into a few sentences rather than counting words out.
- Resolved when
- The next answer runs to a few sentences instead of paragraphs.
The Allow file attachments switch will not turn on
- Check
- The switch on Tone & personality is greyed out and shows a hint saying it is not available yet. Clicking it does nothing.
- Fix
- Visitors cannot send files or photos in the chat window today, and no plan changes that. Where a customer needs to send a photo, hand the conversation over to WhatsApp and let them send it there — WhatsApp handoff sets that up.
- Resolved when
- You have a route for photos, even though the switch stays off.
The Save button is greyed out
- Check
- Look for No changes beside the button. It only wakes up when something on the tab you are looking at has been edited.
- Fix
- Change a field on this tab, watch the button turn dark, then click it. If you edited another tab, go back to that tab and save from there.
- Resolved when
- The line beside the button reads Saved. Changes are live for new conversations.
What this can’t do
- concise and custom are missing from the Tone control on the setup steps, which offers three voices only. Set either one on Tone & personality and the setup control then shows no voice as chosen.
- Reply length is a target, not a hard limit — short aims under 60 words, medium under 200, long up to about 600.
- In Advanced, the Tone & personality and Response rules tabs stop feeding the bot. Your written prompt is the whole instruction.
- One instruction cannot be written away, whichever mode you are in: your own pages are treated as information, never as commands to the assistant.
- Prompt history shows the last 10 saved versions of a bot. Older versions drop off the list, and there is no way to restore one that is not shown.
- Visitors cannot attach files or photos. The Allow file attachments switch is greyed out and does nothing today.
