Teach it your business

What the Business info tab does today

By the end you'll know what the four boxes store, and where to put a fact you need your bot to say.

Before you start

  • Nothing to set up first. Read this before you spend time filling the boxes in.

About 3 minutes. You’ll do three things:

  1. what the four boxes hold
  2. why answers do not use them yet
  3. where your hours should go instead

Business info is four boxes on the Train page holding your business name, phone number, contact email and opening hours. Adoomi saves what you type and keeps it against that bot. Nothing on the answering side reads it yet.

The four boxes, and what each one holds
BoxWhat goes in itLongest it takes
Business nameThe name you trade under. The hint says it overrides the name Adoomi took from your website title.200 characters
Contact emailThe address you want a person to answer on.320 characters
PhoneAny format you like. +44 20 1234 5678 is fine.64 characters
Opening hoursFree text. The box suggests the shape: Mon-Fri 9-5, Sat 10-2.1,000 characters

What it does not do yet

Saving these four boxes does not change a single answer. Your bot replies from two things: the training sources you gave it, and the settings on Bot behaviour. Training sources are your web pages, documents, FAQs and custom replies. The four business boxes are in neither list.

Where your opening hours should go instead

Take a shop open Mon-Fri 9-5 and Sat 10-2, and a visitor asking: do you close early on Saturday? Here is what each route does with that question.

One question, three places the hours could live
Where the hours liveWhat the bot does with the question
Typed into the Opening hours box on this tabNothing. The answer is built without it, so the visitor gets your fallback message.
On a page of your site that Adoomi has crawledIt answers from that page, in its own words.
Written as a custom reply on the Custom replies tabIt answers using the wording you wrote.

So the sum is short. Typing those hours into Opening hours takes about 20 seconds and changes nothing a visitor sees. Writing the same line as a custom reply takes about a minute. File it under the question "what time do you close on Saturday?" and the bot answers that from then on.

Fill the boxes in and save

  1. In the bot sidebar, under Bot setup, click Train your bot.

  2. Click the Business info tab.

The heading above the boxes reads Business info & services.

  3. Fill in the boxes you want: Business name, Contact email, Phone, Opening hours.

  4. Click Save.

Saved. appears beside the button. Until you change something the button is off and the bar reads No changes.

If it didn’t work

I filled in my hours and the bot still cannot answer them

Check
This is how it works today, not a fault on your account. The tab stores the four boxes; the part that writes answers does not read them.
Fix
Open the Custom replies tab and click Add reply. Put "what are your opening hours?" under Questions, write your hours under Answer, then save. You can add more wordings of the same question, up to 20.
Resolved when
You ask the bot the same question and your hours come back.

The Save button is greyed out

Check
The bar at the bottom reads No changes. The button only turns on once something in a box is different from what was saved.
Fix
Edit one of the four boxes. The button turns on as soon as the text differs.
Resolved when
Save is clickable, and Saved. appears after you click it.

A message says my settings changed in another tab

Check
It reads Settings changed in another tab — we reloaded the latest. Re-apply your edit and save again. You get it when this bot was saved somewhere else while your page sat open.
Fix
Adoomi has already pulled the newest version into the boxes, so your old edit is gone rather than saved over someone else's. Type your change again and click Save.
Resolved when
Saved. appears, and your change is still there after a reload.

What this can’t do

  • Filling these boxes in changes no answers. The bot answers from its training sources and its behaviour settings.
  • There is no address box. Put your address on a page, in an FAQ or in a custom reply instead.
  • Business name here does not rename your bot or your workspace. It is a stored fact and nothing else.
  • The four boxes belong to one bot. A second bot has its own set, and filling one in does not fill the other.
  • The hint under Contact email says the bot uses it when handing off to a human. It does not — handover is set up on Bot behaviour → Handover & escalation.
